EAMO Update 52 (e-mailed earlier this month)
May and I and baby Jasmine are in Australia having a break away from the constant grind of running an orphanage and I have to tell you honestly, we are really enjoying ourselves and re-charging our batteries. We are staying with Ben our son, who arrived in Kenya with us 11 years ago. He was just 14 years old. He has grown up in Kenya and is just like a typical Kenyan speak-ing the language fluently and all. Ben has just come back to Aus-tralia with his partner Talia. Talia handles all of EAMO’s corre-spondence. They have bought themselves “Gabrielle’s Café/Restaurant in Robina on the Gold Coast of Queensland. The Café/Restaurant is very elegant with it’s chandeliers. Ben has had quite a bit of adjusting to do coming back to Australia. Gab-rielle’s is doing well and is inviting any of you that live close by to come and enjoy a great meal prepared by Lee, the young Chef of the year 2007.

We note from our mailist that there is many of our supporters living in the Brisbane-Gold Coast area that we have not met face to face with yet. So, because we are here now we decided that we would invite anyone to come and see us at Gabrielle’s for light snacks and a video presentation with many stories and a chance to meet baby Jasmine. Any questions that you may have can be answered directly from us. And, because as you would understand, the best thing for EAMO and its growth is promo-tion of what we do, you could bring a friend that maybe inter-ested in finding out about our $30 USD per month sponsorship program, EAMO would benefit tremendously from this. Please let us know what your thoughts are on this so as we can make the arrangements for the event. We would really love to be able to see many of you here.
Because we are not here in Australia for very long, we would have to arrange this very quickly. Please email us at eam@africaonline.co.ke or call Ralph on 0450582546.
More Kids: Now 125 at Eamo
Three weeks ago we took on another baby by the name of Lee. Lee is just 3 months old. (this is our estimate).
Small Projects: New bunk beds!
We have many projects that need attention all the time but the most urgent is more bunk beds. We have a donor that has just committed to financing two bunk beds. So we only need to build 4 more beds at a cost of $100 Aud each, totaling $600 Australian dollars. This includes all the wood for our own carpenter and two mattresses, sheets and blankets. If you can help please drop us an email at:eam@africaonline.co.ke
The mother was found throwing rocks across the road at baby Lee. Fortunately none of the rocks did any damage to Lee and the Police arrived in time to save him. Of course we agreed to take Lee and the sister into our care. As usual, the first week is always difficult when we take in babies and it was no different with Lee. Sorting out the right formula is quite a task and has it’s toll upon the baby carers, which is usually May.
Kent and Jacob’s mother was also a bit crazy, she was put in prison for killing her baby by throwing it into the pit latrine. Kent and Jacob were left to roam the streets in search for food.
They survived for we don't know how long, but we do know it was until the mother was released from prison. Ap-parently, she cared for the two sons for approximately 6 months and then ran away and left the two boys alone again. The local chief then picked them up and took them into his own home for the next six months until he could not care for them any longer. He then took them to the Juvenile Remand Centre for the Government to care for them. The Remand Centre then arranged through the Children’s Dept to bring the two boys to EAMO. They are both very happy boys now that they finally have some security in there life. Everyone at EAMO will tell you that these two did not stop smiling for the first four weeks. It’s great to be able to help such kids.

The local Juvenile Remand Centre called and asked if we could urgently take in Lee and his older sister as the mother is mentally dis-turbed. It is reported that just before the Police took the two children off the mother, the mother had placed Lee wrapped up in blankets on the side of the road, while she herself sat down on the other side.
